Sikkim Travelogue

Day 0 17.03.2019

Core committee advised us to get ready by 3.00 A.M., but except me none were.😅 I informed Dhanu and got out after entry-ing. I had a little chat with Magic Dada, who narrated his 1st and last fantasy trip with drunken girls. Telugu Titans came out ready, where I was surprised to see their resistance to cold. After cramping our luggage on magic top, we crammed ourselves inside it. Crime partner connected to the speaker and played all-time favourites. First I thought that we were going to somewhere near Khayerpur, we actually reached Agartala shortly. I offered ECE topper a mechanical advantage to which he was grateful. With groupies, to begin with, we began our journey.
Almost all of them slept off after the laughter burst of Dhanu and Laugh Riot. His phone and his playlist were the company to me till Dawn. Dhanu's stretch was the longest and was broken only due to the physical intervention of Divakar, the poser. The poser had the shortest though, Laugh riot woke up now and then. When TT came, Hothead and monkey tried to act as one which was unsuccessful and officially successful. We had a huge shortage of seats which was realised only later. There was a petty window fight between a soldier and the ticket holder, which was resolved by TT and he also awarded the soldier with our window seat.

Then came the stunning station of New Haflong, surrounded by hills, succeeded by a beautiful bridge with a wonderful view. We had a brief photo session with Crime Partner.

Then we played Uno, initially Dhanu taught me the game but he was the biggest reverse champion. In a game, I got the highest number of +4's but still managed to not become the worst guy, credits to Dhanu again. The second biggest loser is a poser. Game changer steered my game to success. It didn't matter who's the winner but who is not becoming the loser. The cheater was a great success along with Laughter riot. Though we were immersed in the game we couldn't fail to notice that we become the centre of attraction. We then had a couple of maida roti and Little Hearts and Red Lays to fill our stomach. Then our train started picking up speed. We took seat berths to sleep but again in vain. I couldn't sleep for more than 2 hours, woke up at 10.15 P.M only to see laughter riot deciding to book tatkal sleeper ticket for return.

Then came Guwahati where most of them got down and in a couple of successive stations, we were made to sit by state force. Then I saw Abhinandan doppelganger sitting just beside us. I gave my bed to Crime Partner who faced the same result. Then I was sleeping sitting for a long time, without my father's company. After seeing for 4 hours till 4, I got a berth and slept till 6.

Day 1:

I woke up to see two cute toddlers in front of me. Then we reached NJP, everyone paid a hand for freshening up, whereas I finished it by the bridge.

Since I was the only one with driving licence and voter ID, crime partner asked me if I would drive till the capital, to which I agreed. After checking Ola rates, we compromised with share auto to reach the biker. The biker was very friendly approachable and offered Himalayan and scissors. After pogo, we checked vehicles for condition and documentation, which was corrected by him in an hour. Then we started off and had Wei-Wei Maggie, lagging behind. The drive was awesome with heavenly sceneries.

We stopped for a photo session on the colour ribbon bridge.

The roads challenged our horsepowers. We reached the capital but evening and was searching for the head post office standing in it. Passes were obtained and Rooms were allotted for them whereas we had to fight for ours. We went to M.G. road 'n' number of times for giving a photo, taking a photo and posing for a photo.

The shops had a variety and it was drizzling. I was searching for a demand by Bio T&P and bought it. All left but laughter riot and ECE topper with me. L.R was never satisfied with my framing and I was not able to catch his. However, topper did the job. L.R. tried a flier leg which he liked but then hated. We then wrapped up for the day.

Day 2:

We planned every day getting up early but always failed. Since the passes weren't granted due to high snowfall, we went for a detour working the city outskirts.

Then we went for the Department of Cultural Affairs, where we saw hundreds of years old artifacts, Dalai-lama seat and Hot Air Rotating Lamp. Still, Rubber preferred a German Aunt for a peppy chat on places to visit, who then took a group pic with us. There was a huge exhibition cum sale of the Indian states traditional articles and a separate one for Sikkim where our ECE topper and Poser bought paintings. I thought for a moment but can't find any place for it and dropped it.

We then went to a viewpoint where there was a telescope to see a monastery 20 km away.

We then had lunch and did a driver's shopping for gloves and caps. En route we traditional dress and had an elaborate photo session in front of the waterfall.

We went to a monastery, a Ganesh Tok (temple) and the zoo. Dhanu went in Activa instead of me on his demand and enjoyed it. When I was taking pics, everyone got reminded of @Madhukars.World and we missed him a lot.

The full bass tracks and the sportive driving of the car was an enjoyable experience for me. We again went to M.G.R had pastries and the para gliders were following behind. We then went to the room, had a short nap and came back at 9 P.M only to miss our Hyderabadi favorite. However ECE topper and I settled for Masala Dosas, others had a forgetful experience. I wanted to have something more, hence I bought a hide and seek in a small shop. It had a free biscuit packet along with it. When I asked the shopkeeper, he said the dealer didn't give him any, but immediately offered another biscuit packet on his own which I refused. We were astonished on seeing their honesty. Then we signed off for the day.

Day 3:

Crime partner took care of the passes and the other passes by the core committee. We started up fairly early, at 11.00 A.M. We had Maggie as brunch. Only after we had ordered it, they went purchased the ingredients, chopped them and cooked them. It took a fairly long time, almost an hour, for us to finish it. Then we started off to the most awaited location of the trip, Lachung. We went past the location of the previous day and Crime Partner bought some more Driver wear. The route was tiresome by road to drive, but for the one in the back seat, the view was heavenly. I enjoyed it by taking videos and singing songs, which Actor seemingly enjoyed.

Then we exchanged seats, Crime Partner was a killer driver. He drives R.E throughout the trip without any gap or any backup, which is simply superhuman. I, however, didn't enjoy being in his backseat, went to drive for some time. Then the climate changed and started raining with cold temperatures. It was a hell of a drive till Rang Rang bridge, where we had an awesome hot lunch. Then I shifted to Sumo and Rubber took my seat. Then we exchanged seats again at the check post.

After beverages were purchased we started out. Everyone went well ahead of us. Only then we noticed that the headlight want working for the Activa. We were instantly mentally knocked out. But we gathered our courage, put our senses on high sharpness, we set out. It was 5 P.M. and it was already pitch dark. Using my mobile flashlight, with only 20% charge, which will turn off when it reaches 15%, and using the light from the rear vehicle's headlight, which we didn't allow to overtake us, we travelled 17 km. The suspense in the turns, the deeps potholes in the road, the unfamiliar cold climate, new vehicle (I drive Star City) all were a huge challenge for me. That was till date my best driving. I was on high alert, all my senses, high adrenaline rush, the demand to not let the trailing vehicle to overtake, as every vehicle may be the last one, as it was not the time to climb the mountain. We met with Crime Partner and OnePlus, who simply turned the headlight on. All this time we were thinking that it had automatic light but it had a switch. Then we started off together. Sumo reached Hotel much earlier than us. We were clueless about the hotel Snow Lake location. We made a huge snack purchase for the Sumo's and started out. Core committee placed his live location in the group which we followed but it was somewhere in Neverland. We almost reached the mountain top and asked the resident to get a negative reply on hotel location. We went back to the bridge and while coming back Hailstorm started. While driving, I was not even able to see R.E. in front of me. We went back and forth chasing the live location but in vain. We stopped and called the core committee. He was completely on a different mood, he sarcastically asked for stuff which ignited OnePlus. He busted him as we were struck at a monastery ground on his instructions. We then came down on a decision to take a room and stopped near a shop. The shopkeeper knew the hotel location and we pleaded him to come along and show us the hotel, which he kindly agreed to. Meanwhile, the sumo was sent back for our relief, which took the other two to the hotel while I was instructed to wait in the middle of the route to give company to Crime partner, which I did. We then reached the wet room of the hotel. Due to Sub-Zero temps, whatever we touched felt wet. We had a delicious dinner, then signed off the day.

Day 4:

Due to uneven temperatures, I got up at 6.00 A.M. itself. I went just outside the room to have a breathtaking view of the snow laden mountains.

We had 3 bread for breakfast and started off to meet the snow. We had a huge queue of Sumos in front of us to get there. We were initially stopped by army personnel, due to excess crowding, but shortly we were allowed. Then, there it was, the elixir of our trip, one of the rarest experiences of our life, Snow. We were able to see people playing around with snowballs, as in movies, it was Holi, and hence we had coloured snowman too.

Since snow gloves went out of stock for me, I became the obvious photographer. I waited for the right moment and got the gloves of Loverboy, who had to shoot slow-mo's from his iPhone. ECE topper accompanied me throughout the day and we had group pics too. ECE topper was getting a bit dramatic after my snow angel and made a video log from Asus. We then went further up where there was untouched snow. The views were breathtaking and we were relentlessly clicking the DSLR and SLR, for Actor and Rubber.

Then we reached the top where Crime Partner was climbing the snow Hill like a Tiger, Rubber was rolling down the hill and finally, we had a group photo session. ECE topper SLR then got covered with the fog from the snowy wind that brushed us, and we had to pack up. While coming down, there was this tea seller who teased us on the way up with snowballs, who sold us hot tea. Dhanu was still baffled on his missing one hand glove, thanks to me. Loverboy got a glove of Rubber, Rubber in turn from Dhanu, whereas all the time Lover boy's missing glove was in my hand. It was then returned to Dhanu. While coming down we realised that we didn't wear sunglasses and everyone got a headache due to the snow reflection which I warned before and got ignored. We played a short Holi with the Driver Bhayya, had our brunch and set out to Darjeeling.

Since Rubber had a tight brunch and a bad history with Sumo, we both started off with Fuel at a dangerously low level. On the way, we were enquiring about the availability of petrol and the route and reached the place where it is available, just to see Crime Partner and Dhanu waiting for half an hour for us for the same reason. After filling the tank, we started off.

Since we were already running late, Crime Partner asked me to hit it, which I followed. Rubber was not as drivable as Actor. I found handling unscientifically difficult, as Rubber may even weigh half as Actor. We then shot some tunnel videos, scenarios with I phone, sang songs, to forget the road that killed our mood and our backs (shoulders too for me). I found the route comparatively more difficult and different than the one I used to drive up.

We were driving past check post and the road was even worse. The roads in the top had deep potholes, the roads here were wet, muddy, slippery and we were driving an Activa. Before a muddy turning to right, a Xylo overtook us and stopped exactly where the downslope of the road ends. I applied both the brakes, the Activa stopped, but it skidded and kissed the right reflector of the Xylo. Not even the reflector, but the support to the right of the reflector, that too it didn't break off, but the top support came off. It looked as if even Rs.10/- Fevi Kwik can attach it back but the driver demanded 2k for it. The reflector to the other side was already broken and he demanded to fully change the rear bumper for 6k. I had RS.10/- in my purse and Rubber didn't even have his purse with him. We convinced him to a settlement of 2k and wanted an ATM for that. We moved slowly behind the Xylo, frowning our misfortune, and then came our Sumo. We explained our situation to them, and we executed it. But the Xylo, though initially let us pass, referred to the plate number and stopped us off. Then we made the settlement to continue our journey. I thought it as a Holi gift to a poor driver. We then reached M.G.R. (again) for dinner. They were literally washing every foot of the road which was colored due to Holi celebration, which we just missed. As soon as we reached, we went to Briyani Center which was closed for straight 3 days, and as it was Holi, most of the other shops were also closed, I suggested Roasted Chicken to core committee, which was approved after an hour of the reckless search operation. We went in, discussed, discussed, discussed, ordered, waited, waited, waited, to get 10/12 pieces correctly found by Dhanu. Then we called, called and called the attendee who turned a deaf ear to us, then gave up on us and ordered for 2 more pieces. Despite being absent, their parcel reached the last. En route to the hotel, Dhanu and Crime Partner were consoling me for the mishap and made an offer I couldn't refuse. There was a tiresome, uninterested hotel shift with no other option. It had no geysers, AC or good drinking water. I took a cold water bath in almost freezing temps which amazed the poser. The old man was frowning overcharging the phone, hence replaced mine. I, on a bad mood, made a few phone calls to home to improve, signing off with that.

Day 5:

Frowning from the bed, we started off early(really) this time to reach Darjeeling. The route was simply heaven, with tea hills, high slope roads, with clouds below us, it was another level experience. We saw the Activa struggling to keep up with slope and the reaction on their faces is just priceless. We could clearly tell the difference between Sikkim and West Bengal just by seeing the roads and buildings. Within a few km distances, the difference is clearly visible. Darjeeling had roads with gravel stones engraved in it, which I hate while driving due to the vibration it produces. We then reached the hotel of our package provider. It was simply the best stay of our trip, which was echoed by him too. The elaborate beds, the OYO package, was really awesome. Only if the Geysers were good, it would have been a perfect one.

ECE topper formulated a method to bath in hot water which was successful only for a day. We then went to the Naidu Zoo, which showed us real bears in one arm distance, in the entry itself. Though the core committee and others stressed on Reptiles direction, I stressed on the Big Cats, which was successful. We also found Snow Leopard, Tiger, Black Panther all at one arm distance, which we loved. We then saw Macaques, Parrots, and others. When we reached the reptile section, they were already in hibernation, hence established my success.

Overall that direction had very less to see. I then purchased a solar Rotating Mani bell which I fascinated from the beginning. I also thought of Thangka painting (again) but dropped the idea (again) for the same reasons. We then came down and saw Actor posing, all waiting for Poser, who went purchasing for his family. Then we visited the viewpoints to find wonderful quotes and clicks. We then visited the tea garden where there was a hoard of clicks, after which I managed to get a group pic clicked. We then drank the Darjeeling tea and purchased almost a crater of tea packets and left for the room.

A core committee was hyped for Subway and since it was Friday, I went to the adjacent veg restaurant with ECE topper. We both ordered Veg Briyani, and there was this active kid, who wrapped the shoulders of ECE topper on his demand of a pic. His mom came and was teaching him Q&A, "Who had the flag?", " Sam had the flag". When he came to my side after clicking with ECE topper, I repeated the question. The kid also knew numbers till 100, alphabets and KungFu. He knew 3 languages, English, Hindi and Nepali, All this by the time he's 5. He was doing bench push-up while talking and was keen on exhibiting his defense skills.

We then had the best Veg Biriyani in Darjeeling with 'Serva'. After finishing mine, I went to the opposite table to watch WWE on the phone. Then we both gave him 500 and he returned the 200 his mom gave him. When we asked if he knew arithmetic, he negatively answered and when we inquired on how he knew it was correct, he gave a smile as his response. We then bid farewell to him and went to our room.

Day 6:

We started off early (really) to watch the Sunrise in Tiger Hill. The driver who took us the day before came and picked us up. We traveled for 10 minutes, and we got a call from the hotel that they've booked another Sumo. All of us were irritated including the driver, and the other driver came after almost half an hour. We started off early enough to manage these, but there was a huge traffic jam on the hill. Hence we ran on foot, as Sun is not going to wait for us. By the grace of God, we were there at the right time. The Sun was about to rise and it was beautifully captured by Laughter Riot using his AI camera phone which he was proud of.

Then we were searching for K2 for a while, just to find it in the middle of the sky. It was hardly visible for our eyes, but still, it didn't stop us from trying to bring it in the frame. We had another elaborate photo session as the lighting and background were perfect. Poser, topper and I were the last ones to reach the Sumo, I was thanking God for saving us from the core committee's level 3. We then went to drop our rope car plan and went to the monastery. They didn't allow us inside the Sanctum Sanctorum as the Puja was going on. We ignored that and went for yet another photo shoot.

Poser and Rubber were having an extended photo shoot which was ended by my call. We were then dropped off at our room, where we had a necessary nap, freshening up and then started off. Using Laughter Riot's short cut, we quickly went to Briyani Baar (not Bar), to have our Lunch. We confirmed our BBQ Nation visit on the next day and pre-booked the tables. We had the perfect dishes there and while returning, we had a photo session with the century-old Darjeeling 'Toy Train'.

After that, we swiftly returned to our rooms and packed up. The actor was caught up in a case due to License and I provided him with the same, however, it was solved by 2 K2's. Then I declared that I will drive the Activa which was affirmed by Dhanu and Crime Partner. Then Topper and I went in Activa towards Siliguri. The road was again challenging; it had the train tracks which caused high skidding, the fog started to come up which forced me to switch on the headlight. After inquiring the state traffic police who were on every street, we had got the idea of the route.

At a point, we got highly doubtful on the route and called R.E. only to know that they were on a roundabout way. We met the Sumo and were confirmed on a correct route. The downhill route was another road to heaven, tea gardens accompanied by fog, it was beautiful yet challenging. We then came to flat land. Finally! Topper wanted to drive the Activa, which I affirmed. He enjoyed driving, safely. I took videos of him driving along tea estates. When it rained and when roads became slippery, I took back the Activa. We reached Siliguri by 6 P.M. and R.E. was still trailing behind. So, we planned to visit a nearby City Mall and in the crossroads, we took right and went for 10 minutes only to get a call to instruct us to go to Dhanu's live location. We came back to the crossroad, took left and continued till it showed 1km more and then another call instructing us to go to Cosmos Mall. We came back again to the Crossroads to go straight. We saw lots of malls en route and it was the IT area. On reaching Cosmos Mall, we called Crime partner and joined him to deposit the bikes. But just near the turning, R.E. touched a scooter parked just on a ledge and it fell into it. The local Toto (Electrical Auto) drivers commented on a hit and run but we chose otherwise and helped on repairing the bike which cost RS.50/- and even mechanic supported us. We then went and submitted the bikes after an hour, the guy was a professional. His son was playing with a gun shooting air and Deepak had a chat with him. The biker was kind enough to get us a Toto till NJP. We kept our luggage in the waiting room and left out to have Masala Dosa as Dinner. The train was running late by 4 hours. I was charging my phone outside the waiting hall and Actor joined me. 2 strangers also joined us. I then filled the bottle with R.O. water that I bought and went to another point as it was charging too slow. I also took the actor's power bank with me. I was charging just in the alternate point where Actor suspected and shouted at the strangers because they referred to me by name and his power bank was missing. He then called me for a personal facepalm moment. We then alighted the train at midnight. We had booked sleeper berths. They're perfect for a perfect sleepover. We got up only at 10 A.M. the next day. Though that was the scheduled time of reach, we reached only after 2 hours. We reached Kamakhya and then caught the started off train in the adjacent platform to go to Guwahati. We then went to A.C. waiting room for taking a bath to go to Kamakhya. After that, we deposited our luggage on the cloakroom and booked Olas. We reached the temple and finished our ATM work. We went inside the temple and from Short cut finished the short darshan. After discussing and roaming for a while, we went to the general queue and after seeing their strictness, we quitted and drank glasses of water kept outside for pacification. After deciding to get out, we sat for a long time and topper came with me for his lunch. We called the insiders to inquire about their interest in coming to the island temple, Umananda Temple to which they agreed. We waited for them till the Ola was about to expire and entered the top and waited only to find that only actor was coming. Actor, despite these, was concerned about his loss of Tea packets which was first saved by Topper on Darjeeling but then lost and his footwear which was lost in the temple which was repeated by him that agitated me. I told him the tough truth and my suppressed anger for his negligence was satisfied. He also dropped off on seeing the cruise. So only topper and I were left.

We got inside the boat to find a friendly co-passenger from Siliguri (Yes). Topper and he had a detailed discussion on all common possible topics. After an hour and half an hour after the scheduled time, the boat started to sail. When we were about to get off, I saw a well-recognised face, it was none other than @Audiphotography Auditya, himself. On seeing him, my mouth even without knowing said his insta ID and name, and Alas! He responded to me. We looked at each other eye to eye, imagine you being Ekalavya and him being the Dronacharya of your Photography and meeting in such a situation. I was dumbstruck. He then moved on to click one of his friends (or models). We then went to the temple which was not that interesting and came last. We then went to the cruise to find a bunch of mosquitoes which were being tried to cover up by the music played aboard. He was there! Sitting right in front of me. I called @madhukars.world and he was ready to kill me for my cowardice, of not taking a selfie with him or not showing his profile to him. All our efforts to bring him into our frame came in vain and we left the boat early to catch up for BBQ. I tried for Ola bike but he declined it. Topper booked an auto and while we were waiting for it, we saw a scene that again made this trip worth it. He then got down en route for Iskon temple whereas I went to BBQ.

I came exactly when the orders were placed. We ate till we were not able to breathe, Dhanu celebrated his fake birthday for the cake with weird claps from the staff. Though NV was our main priority, it changed to Ice creams and Gulfis later, whereas Crime partner and OnePlus was on the fruity league, especially watermelon. We then walked back to the one-day dorm which was fairly worth the money.

Day 7:

We knew that the train is going to trail back so we switch off our alarms after getting up and when the call arrived we left at once. Committee members went to attend nature's call after keeping their luggage in the platform. I preferred the training facility to the station, hence I was waiting for the train. We were surprised by the location of our coach. After getting in and checking all 4 availability, 1 selected one to complete the process. The event was successful and then I took a seat near topper and slept in it until a poor family came for the seat and waked me up. Topper too refused due to his kindness. En route, we met Baja Bhais who were returning from their Meghalaya trip to New Haflong Station. I and topper got late for our compartment and got inside an AC one. There we met a Telugu Train Guard. He was a guy with a couple of romantic experiences, with girls of North East, which were unsuccessful. Though, he was kind enough to allow us to sit in his seat for a couple of hours. When he got down, we invited him to our college for Telugu movie screening and Ugadi. I finished till half of Immortals of Meluha in all of the trip. We then got into confusion about getting down, whether in Jirania or Agartala. We got down at Jirania knowing Dhanu and Laughter Riot have already. Committee members got an auto first and rest of us were walking down the road for an auto. A Tripura Uncle on a scooter stopped by and called an auto and helped us. We then reached the hostel safely and ended our trip with a happy note.
